About the Author

R. P. Barston is Professor and specialist in international relations and modern diplomatic methods. He teaches at UEA London (University of East Anglia) and is a Convenor on the postgraduate Diplomacy Programme. He is a former member of the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office and has extensive diplomatic experience in bilateral and multilateral negotiations.

International training missions include Malaysia (National institute of Public Administration), Brunei, Vietnam and Trinidad. Previous publications include Maritime Dimension, The Other Powers and International Politics Since 1945.
