Hey, all you cool guys and gals! Welcome to the fun and exciting world of learning to read music. That's right-I said fun! Because that's what it is-fun and easy. And anyone can do it. And I mean anyone! I know that there are a lot of you cats out there who maybe noodled around on some kind of musical instrument when you were young and hip, and would really dig re-learning some of the basic stuff about reading music. This book is for you! Maybe you sing or play by ear, and never did learn how to read music. Don't feel left out. This book is for you, too! Then, there are the rest of you-and you know who you are. Never played, sang, read or even danced-always wanted to, but now you think it's too late. You figure it's too complicated, can't teach an old cat new tricks. You know-the typical whining. Well, take heart, folks. This book is especially for you! You, too, can join the ranks of the musically cool. By using the plain language, (I prefer "hip"), techniques and examples set forth in this little book, you will quickly understand the basics of musical notation. You won't be able to help yourself! Fun and fast, that's where it's at. LET'S GO!

Steve Denham is a long time music educator and professional trumpet player. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Northern Colorado. He has been teaching music privately since 1972. Steve recently retired from his duties as a captain for a major U.S airline. During the course of that career he worked with many people who had a burning desire to learn or re-learn the skill of reading music. They had tried several other methods, but quickly became bored or frustrated. Steve realized that there was a great need for a simple, quick and fun way to learn the basics of musical notation. Over the years he has taught hundreds of folks, young and old, to read music using his easy-to-understand system. Steve resides in Aurora, Colorado, where he is active in the Denver music scene, and still teaches the joys of music to anyone willing to learn. He shares this adventure with his wife, Penny, and their two four-footed furry friends, Cassie and Bogart. (Steve figures that when he can teach the dogs to read music, he'll really have something!)
