Tom, Liz and Sara Sanderson were born in the same house in Portage, Wisconsin where their father and Uncle Bob were born. As children, they were often spellbound by the stories of their father-figure and favorite uncle's pre-1960s exploits as a world traveler, writer, television and radio personality, photographer, pilot, outdoorsman, and all-around adventurer. After the death of their father and grandfather in the early 1960s, Tom, Liz and Sara joined together to run the family telecommunications business in rural Wisconsin.
