About the Author

Anthony C. Gatrell is Dean of the School of Health andMedicine and Professor of the Geography of Health at LancasterUniversity. His publications include Distance and Space: AGeographical Perspective (1983), Interactive Spatial DataAnalysis (with Trevor Bailey) (1995), GIS and Health(edited with Markku Löytönen) (1998), and Geographiesof Health (Blackwell, 2001).

Susan J. Elliott is Professor of Geography at McMasterUniversity. She has published extensively in the area of effects onindividual and community health of environmental exposures and wasrecently appointed to the United Nations University InternationalNetwork on Water, Environment and Health.
