Synopsis

Developing Cultural Sensitivity in Psychosexual Therapy is a pioneering compilation that provides a comprehensive exploration of the intricate relationship between cultural diversity and human sexuality.

Featuring contributions from renowned psychosexual therapists and medical experts from Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, each chapter will delve into the unique challenges, practices, and insights related to psychosexual work within specific cultural contexts, particularly with a range of diverse communities. The book offers a rich tapestry of real-life scenarios and illustrations in work with a range of diverse clients including Black, LGBTQ, Orthodox Jew, Muslim, Observant Hindu, Sikh, and more. A great deal of attention is given to the seamless integration of scientific data with socio-cultural realities, treating readers to an immersive exploration that transcends conventional boundaries. Arguing that psychosexual relational therapy is historically impacted by colonialism, the book challenges a "one size fits all,” mono-normative, Eurocentric approach, offering instead how to integrate social justice concerns both practically and philosophically.

This unique synthesis of scholarly insight, lived experience, and clinical expertise makes this book a compelling read for any psychosexual or relational therapist.
