Later, working as a shoemaker in Soho, his recollections of the war were written down by Henry Curling and published in 1848. This edition has been re-edited by Eileen Hathaway to put Harris' disjointed recollections into chronological order. Hathaway has also provided linking passages giving historical context to the story, with quotations from the diaries and memoirs of Harris' fellow soldiers.
