About the Author
Michael Schmidt was born in Mexico in 1947, and studied at Harvard and at Wadham College, Oxford. He now runs Carcanet Press. His previous books of poetry are `Black Buildings' (1969), `Bedlam & The Oakwood' (1970) and `Desert of the Lions' (1972). The poems in this collection were mostly written in 1968.
