Synopsis

A Master Guide to the Art of Floral Design is a fresh new approach to an ancient art, one in which the flower itself is the ultimate teacher of color, form, composition, and every other aspect of design. Exquisite photography and illustrations combine with thoughtful, clear text to reveal the grace of flowers first pictured alone in nature, and then beautifully arranged in designs reflecting both contemporary and more traditional styles. Great ideas abound, from arrangements to suit casual everyday home decor to stunning examples perfect for intimate entertaining or the most lavish wedding, and the authors offer useful information on the practical details of creating arrangements.

Cox "Bookwatch" (11/07/2002) This is a genuinely useful reference for both the novice and master designer. I cannot stress highly enough the value of this book to your reference library. Nearly every page is filled with color photographs. . . . Above all, de Jong-Stout encourages you to enjoy floral creations. -- Gwen Schoen "Sacramento Bee" (05/04/2002) This work is appropriate for novice and experienced floral designers and would be a good acquisition for public library collections. -- Cari Ringelheim "American Reference Books Annual" (03/27/2003) An obvious love of the subject infuses de Jong-Stout's writing. . . . Carpender "National Gardener" (11/07/2002) From [the author's] over thirty years of experience in consulting, teaching, and creating custom floral designs, she introduces us to insider techniques. . . . It is clear on the elements of principles of design. Very cutting edge and European in feel. This is one of the best books for designers with any degree of experience I have seen. -- Gay Estes "By Design" (11/26/2002) "The Christian Science Monitor's" "The Year's Best Garden Books.""A Master Guide to the Art of Floral Design" devotes about half of its pages to explaining the basics of flower arranging without becoming too simplistic. Then comes a photo gallery of beautiful arrangements, which gives examples of how the principles can be applied. My favorite: a very simple wreath of violets. What an appealing use of a plant that many gardeners consider a weed. -- Judy Lowe "Christian Science Monitor" (12/04/2002)
