Harold R Isaacs (1910-1986) was an American journalist, author and political scientist. He went to China in 1930 and became involved with left wing politics in Shanghai. In 1980 he returned to China with his wife and wrote an account of their visit in this book. In a chapter of the book, 'The Doctored Photo', he explains how he was air-brushed out of a photograph, the before and after are shown. The leading edge of the letter is dusted; not affecting text. D/w has a u-shaped tear at foot of spine (approx. 5cms long); d/w rear panel has a small loss to top corner; else a very good plus copy, in a very good d/w, of a SCARCE first edition, first printing PRESENTATION COPY.
