Very good/very good. Like any extra-heavy volume, this 9+ pound lap-crusher invariably and inevitably develops weak inner hinges from its own weight and to prevent this both inner hinges bear old but neat black cloth tape along hinges for strengthening; binding pristine and text block superb; jacket just a tad worn at corners. Lovely first edition of this massive, thorough survey of Roman art from a scholarly and sophisticated perspective. As jacket flap notes, "This volume amply displays the unique quality of Roman art -- as the expression of a complex political system that encompassed geographical areas stretching across Europe, England, North Africa, and large regions of Asia.".
