Synopsis
This text is about an attempt to understand and influence the way the subject "English" is conceived and taught at University level, describing the results of the DUET project. This was based on an interdisciplinary workshop design which combined literary theory and group relations. Aspects covered include: application of group relations thinking (the Tavistock "Leicester" model) to English teaching; the study group as text; power and authority in teaching; feminism; experience and the unconscious; boredom in education; practising writing; and practical group exercises.
