Synopsis

During World War II, Britain's top secret Special Operations Executive plotted to assassinate Hitler. A small department of SOE known as Section X had the complext task of investigating how, when and where the deed might be done. Only Section X and a handful of other SOE staff knew of this top secret project, codenamed Operation Foxley. In mid-1941 the British War Cabinet gave SOE permission to study the possibility of assassinating the Fuhrer. At this low point in the war for Britain, Churchill had good reason to seek the "removal" of the heavily guarded Nazi dicatator. But, there was a very real worry that the Gestapo would use the assassination as an excuse for wholesale executions of actual or suspected members of resistance movements. This text provides an insight into the shadowy world of Britain's wartime intelligence activities and how a secret vendetta against Hitler was planned from the corridors of Whitehall.
