The book is in very good condition over all, which is amazing when you consider that it is now over 35 years old, the front and back covers are nice clean and bright with only some minor signs of shelf wear mainly along the edges and a few minor creases. Internally the book is in fantastic condition, with all 215 pages present and attached, they are clean and bright without any form of damage or writing on any page. Donald F. Glut took over from Lucas to write the novelisation of the second film in the original Star Wars trilogy. First published in 1980, it follows the plot of the film without pausing to take the opportunities offered by a novel to explore the inner thoughts or feelings of any of the characters. This reflects the tone of the film, in which the lead characters of Luke, Han and Leia are action heroes dedicated to the destruction of evil. Their personal histories have been fleshed out by later writers, and the focus here is very much on action.

Glut handles the action at a fast pace: the opening battle on the ice world of Hoth, the pursuit of Han's ship, the Millennium Falcon, through an asteroid belt by Imperial ships, and our heroes' adventures in Lando Calrissian's Cloud City of Bespin where they encounter treachery and fall into the clutches of the evil Darth Vader. Meanwhile, Luke learns to control the Force under the tutelage of the tiny Jedi master Yoda amongst the suitably damp and uninviting swamps of Dagobah.

This workmanlike entry in the trilogy retells the story without frills--these are left to the imagination of the reader. --Elizabeth Sourbut
