Synopsis
This textbook has been designed for a one–semester course in physical chemistry. The course has become very popular and has attracted students from disciplines including: biology, biomedical physics and engineering. Many of the students are also premedical, predental,pre–optometry etc., and have found the text to be of great assistance in their pre–professional examinations.
The Survey of Physical Chemistry is written using calculus–based fundamental concepts which are thoroughly reviewed in the Appendices. Many students who are proficient in mathematics have difficulty making the transition to physical chemistry with its myriad of symbols. Partial derivatives are used where appropriate and these are also described in the Appendices.
Ensuring student′s comprehension of this material, text problems have been inserted, to test students′ understanding of the material in each section. More comprehensive exercises have also been placed at the end of each chapter, and practical applications of physical chemistry principles are illustrated in the exercises.
