The emphasis of the book is on interpretation of data and clinical applications of methods, although detailed theory and experimental factors are included. Increasingly useful methods, such as high resolution nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy of solids, and resonance Raman spectroscopy are given due importance. A notable feature of the book is the lengthy final chapter which contains 19 case histories which discuss structural problems related to particular compounds or groups of compounds and use a range of methods in order to understand the systems or solve the problems.
