Synopsis
A reworking of the String Quartet No 9, the Second Sonata juxtaposes and combines “a yearning for the intellectual and emotional climates of Europe” with music derived from Australian Aboriginal sources. Cast in an ABCBA structure, the faster “B” sections are constructed by an intricate series of overlapping ostinati.
