Synopsis
This book covers the interaction of aerodynamic forces and elastic structures with unusual thoroughness. It is directed to advance undergraduate and graduate students but it has proven highly useful as well to designers and engineers concerned with flutter, structural dynamics, flight loads and related subjects. The book begins with an introductory chapter covering concepts of aerodynamics, elasticity and mechanical vibrations, followed by a survey of aeroelastic problems, basic physical concepts and the principle of analysis. The last part of the book covers the fundamentals of oscillating airfoil theory and gives a brief summary of experimental results. The physical assumptions involved in the mathematical formulation of a problem are always emphasized so that the degree of approximation relative to the real physical system can be seen. Each chapter is followed by a bibliography
