This fourth volume of Haydn's String Quartets contains full scores of the twelve masterful quartets from Opp. 20 and 33 (six quartets from each). Composed in 1771 and 1781 respectively, these popular quartetsare among the most performed and recorded pieces in the repertoire. Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) was an Austrian composer whobecame the figurehead of the classical movement. He formed a close and mutually respectful relationship with Mozart, and later taught Beethoven, but it was his compositions that left an indelible mark on the musical landscapeofWestern Europe.

About the Author
Austrian composer Joseph Haydn (1732-1809), one of the most prolific and prominent musicians of the Classical era, wrote in every genre. Friend to Mozart and teacher of Beethoven, he standardized the four-movement structure of the quartet, the form for which he is best known.
