Synopsis
Presents an overview of the case study method and its applications, describing in detail, how to conduct psychological case-studies; how to evaluate them, and how to use diagrams and decision analysis in case-studies. Individual case-studies constitute a basic method of scientific inquiry, which can be justified in terms of an underlying philosophy of science. The author discusses some of the implications for psychology of adopting such a philosophy and method. Although the examples are largely psychological, the case-study method is widely useful in the social and behavioural sciences, and this book should be of value to students and practitioners of psychiatry, social work, education, law and sociology, as well as psychologists, who will welcome the discussion of several previously neglected aspects of the case-study method - including organization, procedure, decision-making, generalization and social cognition.
