Despite what is commonly taught, Western philosophy did not begin with Socrates. Giannis Stamatellos is a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Neoplatonic Virtue Ethics at the University of Copenhagen. He is the author of Plotinus and the Presocratics (2007).
