Synopsis

Experiential Training explores how to train people in areas which are particularly emotionally, and therefore intellectually, challenging. The majority of people recoil from death or dying, from frank awareness or discussion of sexuality, from seeing the limitations of their own ways of communicating with others or how they try to manage their own stress. The contributors adopt an experiential, or participative, learning approach. This is a powerful tool in helping people integrate their own emotional and practical experiences and competence, whilst learning considerably from others, in group settings. It enables them to come to appreciate realities which previously they had not been aware of, often blinded by deeply ingrained beliefs, attitudes and values. Detailed descriptions of training workshops explain why such training is necessary and provide a wealth of clinical experiences which vividly convey the flavour of these workshops and the personally vulnerable and challenging position of the trainer.
