Synopsis
As a result of her experience as an art psychotherapist and group therapist, Waller believes that the use of images within the dynamic framework of a group can greatly increase the potential curative and change-provoking elements at work. Here she presents the theoretical formulation of a model which integrates the change-enhancing factors of both group psychotherapy and art therapy, showing how the theoretical model works in practice through a series of illustrated case examples. By testing the model in clinical and educational situations, it is shown that it can be adapted for use with a variety of client groups, in short and long term contexts, and with trainees from different disciplines, and from different societies and cultures. The author's practical experience of running training workshops with a wide variety of different groups, both in Britain and elsewhere, gives this work a multicultural dimension. It aims to prove useful to an international readership of art therapists, group therapists and others wishing to understand more about the theory and practice of this specialized form of art psychotherapy.
