Synopsis

STEPS is a computer based learning project. It was developed in the UK through the Teaching and Technology Learning Programme (TLTP) and aims to teach statistical principles and understanding through a problem centred approach. The 'Statistics and Problem Solving' folder contains high quality support material for both students and lecturers using STEPS. These materials may be photocopied freely by institutions or departments purchasing the folder.

The modules described here are based around specific problems arising in Biology, Geography and Psychology. Students will discover that statistical issues arise from these problems as important natural parts of the process of reaching conclusions. Subjects covered include graphical methods, variability, sampling, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, experimental design, regression, discrete data and simple statistical models. The STEPS software is available free to educational users and is included in this folder.
