Synopsis

The section on writing to entertain includes an exploration of real film and television scripts, and advice on writing poetry, short stories and novels. The section on writing to persuade introduces students to rhetoric and argument, propaganda, advertising, editorials and election campaigning. In the section on writing to inform, students are invited to discover the techniques used and write their own informative pieces. Finally, in the section on writing to instruct, students are given tips on how to write advice such as "how to pass your driving test". The book is part of the "Living Language" series, which is designed to meet needs in the teaching of A Level English Language and A Level English Language and Literature.
