This central interpretation of the history of sixteenth-century England has been the subject of fierce - and unresolved - controversy since it was first put forward by G. R. Elton thirty years ago, in The Tudor Revolution in Government . Revolution Reassessed offers not only a radical critique of established orthodoxy, but also a number of important reinterpretations of the history of the royal household, the council, parliament, and financial administration in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
