Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Large 8vo, i-xx, 527 pp, 8 black and white plates, figures throughout. Some light spotting to the top edge, tape residue to the front and rear paste downs where the dust wrapper flap was once stuck down but a good copy in a dust wrapper with a faded spine and small tear on the rear cover. A presentation copy from Dr Manton and loosely inserted is a card from Dr Manton's husband mentioning that she is in hospital with shingles. Attached to the card is a photograph of Simocephalus vetalus multiplies x 33! Dr Manton's obituary from The Times November 16 1979 is pasted to the verso of the front free end paper. Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. The dust jacket looks good but does have some impairments which should be noted: two short lengths (400-500 mm) of bumping along sections of both the front and back wrapper/cover edges, rubbing of part of the book title label on spine (photo), plus a small triangular portion of the dj's transparent plastic coating has become loose on the bottom left hand corner of the back part of the cover. The navy blue cloth boards, spine and text block are in good overall condition; with elegant gold gilt titles along the spine. At the very base of the fore-edge is a small amount of black ink-type discolouration which continues a short way onto the bottom edge. Throughout the book, there are numerous mainly b/w diagrams, illustrations and tables. Towards the latter part of the book there is a series of plates (8) of b/w photos of arthropods. An errata and corrigenda page is also included in this edition. pp. xviii, 527. 8vo.
