Pro Caelio - Hardcover

Cicero, Marcus Tullius

9780198144014: Pro Caelio

Synopsis

This third edition differs from the second (published in 1952) in several ways, apart from small corrections. Appendixes II and III have been rewritten, the bibliography has been enlarged, and there is a body of new notes, some on points previously left untouched, others supplementing or modifying the commentary. The text remains Clark's; but in a passage (5) which Clark left as corrupt, there is now printed (for the first time in the history of the text) the seventeenth-century conjecture which most modern scholars would accept as providing valid evidence for identifying Caelius' birthplace.

"An English edition of the Pro Caelio was much needed; and here it is, well and thoroughly done" — Classical Review, reviewing the First Edition.
