A turn-of-the-century tale of spies, sunken gold and mist-shrouded seas, The Riddle of the Sands is widely acknowledged as a ground-breaking classic of the thriller genre. When his friend Davies offers Carruthers the chance to do a little yachting and duck shooting in the Baltic, he accepts, despite some reservations. His doubts grow when he boards the scruffy Dulcibella and begins to realize there is a good deal more to the invitation than he could possibly have suspected ... For the fog onthe Baltic coast hides more than strange little fishing villages and ducks. It hides a presence, a dark and growing menace that may someday come to threaten the whole of Europe ...
