Synopsis

In volume one, M.M. Kaye recalled her idyllic childhood in India in the early years of this century. Mollie on the verge of womanhood feels gauche alongside her vivacious mother and the glittering socialites of the Raj, so the splendour and gaiety of the Delhi Season is not an unalloyed pleasure. But there are friendships and fun to compensate, a growing talent for watercolour, her sister Bets and her adored father. And above all, there is India - for Mollie's real love affair is with the country. She brings alive the glories of the Raj and the ceremonies of high-caste Indian life. All the enchantment that inspired her novels is here.
