In this collection of short stories, the author takes the reader into a sensuous world of endless winters and midnight sun. As far apart as Finland, the Austrian Tyrol, and upstate New York, these stories come alive to the touch of estrangement, misunderstanding, sexuality and loss.

Carole Boyd s theater work includes a year performing with Alan Ayckbourn s Scarborough Company where she created the role of June in "Way Upstream", while her television credits include "Hetty Wainthropp Investigates" and "Mystery!: Campion". Carole also plays the notorious Lynda Snell in "The Archers", is a regular reader on BBC Radio 4 s "Poetry Please", and has won three audiobook awards for her recordings.
The stories read herein exemplify the genre of the literary watercolor. In pale, delicately drawn scenes of modern life, evocative and elusive, not much really happens, but what does transpire somehow contains significance. Carole Boyd reads in mellifluous BBC diction, drawing out the china-vase prettiness of the lines and displaying a considerable gift for character voices. Unfortunately, her dynamic range is so wide that if one cranks up the volume to hear her pianissimo, one is blasted by the next fortissimo. It is practically impossible to follow her while driving, even with windows shut against outside noise. Y.R. (c) AudioFile, Portland, Maine
