Foreword by Doris Lessing, 302pp , In English , ABOUT THE AUTHOR :: Idries Shah ( June 16, 1924 November 23, 1996 ) (Arabic: ? ? , in Hindi : ? ?) was an author and teacher of traditional Sufi Naqshbandi Tariqat who wrote more than three dozen critically acclaimed books that deal with topics ranging from psychology and spirituality to daily travel and cultural studies. 1 Born in India , descendant of a noble family from Afghanistan, one Shah grew mainly in England . His early writings focused on topics such as magic and brujería.2 3 In 1960 he founded a publishing house called Octagon Press, producing translations of classical texts Sufis also own titles . Its most emblematic work was Sufis , which appeared in 1964 enjoying a good reception internacional.4 In 1965 , Shah founded in London the Institute for Cultural Research ( Institute for Cultural Research) , an educational nonprofit organization dedicated to study of human behavior and cultura.5 a similar organization, the Institute for the study of Human Knowledge , also known as ISHK (Institute for the Study of human Knowledge ) exists in the United States , 6 under the direction of psychologist and professor at Stanford University Robert Ornstein.7 in his writings, Shah presents to Sufism as a universal form of previous wisdom to Islam , emphasizing the dynamism of Sufism , not static nature always adapts to the present time , according to the place and the people involved. He also framed his education in Western psychological terms. Shah made extensive use of traditional tales - teaching and parables , texts that contain multiple layers of meanings designed to enable introspection and self-reflection in the reader.
