Synopsis

International Management (as a subject) is the process of applying management concepts and techniques in a multinational, multicultural environment. Along with information technology, international management is the major challenge facing organizations entering the new millenium. All countries and companies are now part of the supercompetitive global marketplace, which is sometimes referred to as the "3 Any's environment - anybody, anywhere, anytime."

International Management (the textbook by Hodgetts & Luthans) stresses the balanced approach and the synergy/connection between the texts four parts: Culture (4 chps), Environment (4 chps) Strategy and Functions (4 chps) and Organizational Behavior /Human Resource Management (5 chapters). Hence the new subtitle was added to stress the three major focal points in the study of International Management: Culture, Strategy, and Behavior. The authors believe that this balance and synergy reflect the true nature of international management today. The author team also brings balance to the text. Dr. Fred Luthans is an OB expert and Dr. Hodgetts is a strategy expert.

A Framework'Functions-Futures Approach is used as the text's conceptual model. A central idea is discussed in a cultural framework and then applied to the functions managers carry out. The model concludes with a discussion of challenges and opportunities the manager can expect to face.

This market leading text involves students in the learning process by presenting chapter objectives in paragraph form using action statements such as review, examine, analyze, discuss, present, identify, define and by prviding interactive end-of-chapter and end-of-book exercises and cases. Students are shown up front how the chapter material fits together and what they must do when reading the chapter. The authors describe complex research in a lay person format thus helping students merge theory into practice.
