This book was first marketed as a "young adults" work
I wrote this book when I was 21, when I was staying home with my newborn between my sophomore and junior years of college. It was never intended as a "young adults" book..it does contain a very graphic suicide by self-inflicted gunshot wound, for instance and, I recall, one of the early reviews said, "It will take quite an exceptional "young adult" to sit still for all this introspection".
But it is no longer a "young adult" book and is now in its 25th year in print. The most commercially successful of all my five books.
