Although we live in Olten or in New York, in Munich or Helsinki, but is here also our home? And what does "home" mean to us? Does the feeling of being at home not just depend on people and, above all, on language and stories in which we recognize ourselves - Erwin, for example, or André or the milkman who brings the milk in the morning at four? Peter Bichsel, who was once a teacher and then became a writer, today in Solothurn thinks about why it regularly drives people out of their place and their area, to holidays, for example. It is strange, he says, "that we choose as a destination those areas where the locals cannot afford to travel. Because no one lives here, we go to areas where people still live." And it is almost absurd that "we earn our money here with which we try to realise ourselves elsewhere". In his stories gathered in this volume, Peter Bichsel always faces the question: "Where do we live?"
