Most of this well illustrated book describes Whitbread when it was a brewery or a brewery conglomerate, starting with Samuel Whitbread from Bedfordshire, the company's growth in London in the 19th and early 20th centuries and then its rapid post war "protection", takeover and ultimate closure of many well known regional brewers...and finally into licensed brewing of foreign beer brands, fast food outlets, hotels and other non-brewing pursuits.
