About this Item

Les trois impostures is a novel in modernist form written by an extremely popular French poet, storyteller and feuilletonist of his era, Paul-Jean Toulet (1867-1920). The book was published posthumously in 1922 with illustrations of Laboureur. This elegant edition was illustrated by the prominent female illustrator Hermine David (1886-1970). Being a wife of another prominent French artist Jules Pascin, she belonged to the certain Parisian artistic circles, famous as Paris school, that united the foreign artists in the city that was meant to be the center of the Western world. Her style appears at the edge between decorative academism and the expressionism of the art deco illustration. Very unique and recognisable style. Text in French. 136/200. 1 vol.complete. In 4to. 28x19cm. 161pp. 13 black etchings in plate and 3 in text. Arches paper. Watermarks. Engravings oxidized the opposite pages. French binding. Original Dust Jacket. Custom made slip case broken.
