London: Simpkin, Marshall, Hamilton, Kent & Co Ltd, 1901, 1901. Signed by Author(s). VG+. Decorative cream cloth, 186pp. Third edition. Illustrated by the author. Frontispiece signed by the author and inscribed "To Ernest Callard with the author's best wishes, Aug. 09". Some foxing and discolouration to first few pages. Description of daily life as a British soldier in the Boer War. Also included are (1) Six postcards postmarked between 22 December 1911 and 22 December 1914 from Percy T Ross to Ernest Callard, two of which show him in uniform; (2) A postcard from Percy T Ross on active service with the British Expeditionary Force, B Company, 23rd London Regiment, to Ernest Callard, dated 13 April 1915; (3) Four letters from Percy T Ross from 'somewhere in France' - two pages dated 30 March 1915, four pages dated 21 April 1915, two pages dated 2 May 1915, four pages dated 22 May 1915, all of which describe his experience in the trenches. One letter includes his authorisation for the publication of his letters home from the trenches to his family and friends, under the control/editorship of Ernest Callard; (4) Press cutting: 'ROSS: Killed in action, on the night of 25th/26th May, in France.'; (5) Reprinted from the Daily Express, dated 29 June 1915, a long article describing an action by the 23rd London Regiment: 'The Charge of the 23rd - Battersea men beat the Prussian Guard'.
