Item description from seller

As new condition photographic softcover wraps. Includes Dedication; Foreword by two-time LPGA and U.S. Open Champion Mary Mills and PGA Champion Al Geiberger, "Mr. 59"; and Epilogue. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs. Signed and inscribed by the author with black Sharpie on the first free front half-title page. "Van Costa has enjoyed great success as a senior business executive in the cable telecommunications industry for the last twent-three years. Much of his business accomplishments can be accredited to his people skills that were developed as an LPGA and PGA tour caddy, during his summer months off from high school and college, during the decade of the 1970's. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, Mr. Costa now resides in Boca Raton, Florida. He still maintains a very close friendship with Al Geiberger and his family, as well as LPGA great, Mary Mills. Van has been a part of the history of the world of professional golf. He was one of the original caddies that began traveling with the LPGA tour in the summer of 1973. During his caddy career he shouldered the bag for Hall of Fame players such as Sandra Haynie, and all-time greats such as Jane Blalock, Sally Little, and Mary Mills. Van had the pleasure of caddying for Al Geiberger, "Mr. 59", on the men's PGA tour for over fifteen years. He saw, first hand, all the triumphs and tragedies that happen in the private life of a professional athlete that the public and press don't ordinarily witness. Van watched a young Brent Geiberger grow up, and was witness to his first Masters experience in 2000. Mr. Costa holds back no punches, as he tells the TRUE stories of his inside the ropes experiences with the stars of the 1970's, truly one of professional golf's most prolific eras. He also takes you inside the world of the tour caddie, professional golf's ever existent sub-culture. You will come to understand the job and the traveling nomadic lifestyle of golf's mysterious journeymen. Van was a part of the 1975 Ryder Cup experience as Al Geiberger's caddy. He was on the bag for Jane Blalock during the infamous cheating scandal of 1972, which questioned the very integrity of the game and created a civil war within the LPGA organization. A young Van Costa caddied for a blossoming star in the making, Sally Little, and saw, first hand, what can happen to a player when that first taste of victory is at their doorstep. Conversely, Mr. Costa was there to see a three-time major champion, Mary Mills, succumb to the fate suffered by many of golf's greatest legends, the "yips". This book is MUST reading for any golf enthusiast.".…

Store description

Vero Beach Books is an antiquarian bookseller with a constantly updated inventory of rare out-of-print books, signed books, children's books, plus a large inventory of ephemeral items such as major U.S. city newspapers going back 100 years and more, golden and silver age fine condition comic books (soon to be added), and many other ephemeral items as well as much more recent popular volumes. We have been in business for 25 years, originally known as Emerson Books (named after one of our owner's favorite authors, to wit, Ralph Waldo Emerson) located back then in Westport, Connecticut. That said, we are here to serve you, to offer you fine quality items that are conservatively described so that you will always be pleasantly surprised and delighted with your purchase. Twenty-five years in the bookselling business has borne out our stellar service oriented reputation; the only difference is that now we are located in the almost always sunny and warm climate of Vero Beach, Florida. Again, we are here to serve you and, as was the case when we were previously known on ABEBooks.com as Emerson Books, we will continue to offer our very popular 100% free search service for those hard to find books rare and out of print books. Oftentimes we are also able to obtain these rare finds at very good discounts to our customers' so it is always worth contacting us in such cases!
