Jasper's parents, Cornelius Joel Hills and Sephronia Briggs Hills, crossed the Great Plains and came to Oregon by wagon train in 1851. The town of Jasper is named for the author's father Jasper Hills. The author, Hallie Hills Huntington (1898-1994), was the president of the Lane County Historical Society for twenty years.
