Item description from seller

8vo. 490. Frontis. black & white portrait of the author. Introduction by the editors, Robert McElroy and Thomas Riggs. Illustrated with black & white maps and illustrations, some of them fold-out. Index. Bound in grey cloth; spine and cover lettered in gilt. Hand numbered 104 of an edition limited to 1000. Signed by both editors and two members of the Delafield family on half-title. Inscribed by Robert McElroy to the noted collector of Americana Philip Ashton Rollins: "To Philip Ashton Rollins, of the / Oregon Trail, but most of / all of Princeton, with the / regards and best wishes of / [signed] Robert McElroy]". A fine copy with attractive provenance. In 1945 Rollins and his wife presented to the Princeton University Library their collection of more than 3,000 volumes of Western Americana. This volume evidently escaped that transfer. HOWES, D227.
