("Franklin D. Roosevelt") 1 page with integral leaf on mint green engraved "The White House" letterhead Washington DC, December 16, 1937 to Miss Rhoda Hinkley, Eden Hill, Poughkeepsie, New York. Fine, fresh. Insightful letter supporting American peace; advising that Boake Carter's statements were untrue or misstated. Telling of the Japanese bombing of innocent Chinese families. A prelude of the war to come. Harold Thomas Henry Carter (1903-1944), radio commentator (aka Boake Carter) was a critic of FDR's foreign policy. In 1938 under pressure from FDR's friends he was banned from radio and deserted by his sponsors, therefore loosing his platform to criticize FDR. Roosevelt (1882-1945), born January 30, 1882, Hyde Park, New York; died in office April 12, 1945, Warm Springs, Georgia; 32nd President of the United States 1933-1945 and author of the "New Deal"; only President to be elected to four terms; assistant secretary of the Navy 1913-1920; governor of New York 1929-1933.
