The Letter is folded with a horizontal and two vertical folds to fit the envelope which measures 5 ½ in. x 3 ½ in. The envelope has been slit on top, bottom and one side; an ink notation on back flap shows the signature of Sheila Kaye Smith (1887-1956). The envelope is addressed to Miss Eleanor Thomas in Cleveland, Ohio. The envelope has a three half pence, red, cancelled stamp present, postmarked: Hastings April 25, 1924. The letter reads: "9 Dane Road St. Leonard's on Sea.--25th April, 1924 My dear Miss Thomas, Thank you very much for your letter which I have just received. In answer to your question, Professor Camby is wrong in his supposition that Vinehall Church is Roman Catholic. It is an Anglican Parish Church and you are right in supposing that all I wished to do was to contrast the social worker type of parson with a more spiritual kind. I am so very glad to hear that you enjoyed my books, especially 'Sussex Gorse', [1916] which is a favorite of my own. With many thanks for your appreciation and best wishes, Very sincerely yours, [signed] Sheila Kaye-Smith."
