Lettre du "Brain Tumor Registry" signée par la conservatrice, Louise Eisenhardt (élève de Cushing) Dr. Louise Eisenhardt (1891-1967), Typed Letter Signed on letterhead of the Brain Tumor Registry of Yale University School of Medicine, April 1956, with Quebec neurosurgical content (Dr. Maurice Héon) Dr. Eisenhardt was one of the first neuropathologists and a leading world expert on Tumor Diagnosis. She was a close collaborator to Dr. Harvey Cushing, the eminent American Neurosurgeon often called the father of neurosurgery, and also famous for his writing of the book The Life of Sir William Osler. She started as his Secretary, was encouraged by Cushing to do her medical studies and eventually became Neuropathologist and his assistant/collaborator. In 1934, Eisenhardt moved with Cushing when he went from Harvard to Yale. Together they worked on a brain tumor registry with more than 2,000 specimens. She became Conservator of the Brain Tumor Registry in Yale School of Medicine in 1938 (upon Cushing s death). She helped neurosurgeons around the world identify tumors and their treatments. In 1944, Eisenhardt became the Managing Editor of Journal of Neurosurgery and stayed there for 22 years. Up to now, she is the only female President of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. The letter is related to the studies of Dr. Maurice Héon in neuropathology under Eisenhardt s instruction as a Conservator in the Brain Tumor Registry at Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut during the years 1954 and 1955. Dr Héon later became a Neurosurgeon at Hôpital de l Enfant-Jésus and Professor at Université Laval in Quebec City. Very scarce. Very good condition. Letterhead of the Brain Tumor registry with Eisenhardt s name as Conservator and with those of the Advisory Board, including Drs. Wilder Penfield (Montreal), Bailey, Cairns, Grant, Harvey, Heuer, Sachs, Van Wagenen and Wolbach.
