These historically-important contracts were issued in 1932 by Mascot films at the height of their success, releasing cliff-hanger shorts to the movie industry. The signatures include Monte Montague (1889 - 1959), a seasoned Western actor who appeared in more than 100 films, signing a contract agreeing to appear in the film "The Shadow Of The Eagle," January 26, 1932, to play the part of Calhoun, at the rate of $75.00 per week. Also included is John Trent (1906 - 1966), a commercial pilot turned actor. He really flew planes in the pictures he was in, but was never comfortable acting. This contract arranges for Trent to appear in the film "The Whispering Shadow," December 4, 1932, at the rate of $75.00 per week. Mascot finally figured out he couldn't act, so they cancelled the film! Both items are in very good condition. American film company of the 1920s and 1930s best remembered for producing and distributing film serials with "cliff hangers" and B-westerns. They bought out Sennett Studios when Mack Sennett went bankrupt during the great depression and later were absorbed into Republic Pictures in time to reap the rewards of television syndication.
