From the Author
"Two Thousand Years Later" as a contemporary story is modelled on certain aspects of my own life. I was for twenty years a Cruise Director, for seven of those years Cruise Director of the "Queen Elizabeth 2." It is not surprising, therefore, that I chose a World Cruise as the setting for my story. The principal characters are the Chief Purser of a luxury cruise ship, a concert pianist and an architect, and the scenes in this book take you to all corners of the world with vivid description based on my own personal travel experience. I have now sailed around the world fifteen times. I am also married in real life to a celebrated internationally recognized solo flautist, Bettine Clemen, which gives me the insights into the concert world that are a part of this story. However, I am first and foremost a Theologian having graduated with honors from Cambridge University in 1966. In this capacity comes the other side of the storyline and the meaning of the title. As these characters relate to one another on this journey around the world, so they come to realise through shared deja vu circumstances, dreams, music association and ultimately in regression, that they all knew each other in past lives lived in First Century Roman Palestine. Through their discoveries comes in the twentieth century dialogue a very different interpretation of the life and message of Jesus to that which has been handed down to us by Christianity. Not only does the setting of the story give me the opportunity as the author to incorporate a certain fusing of Eastern and Western thought, but in my role as a theologian I find myself challenging Christianity in much the same way as Bishop John Shelby Spong in his 1998 publication "Why Christianity must Change or Die." But, like Spong, I don't want to belittle the greatness of the personality of Jesus and stand within the scholarship of the Historical Jesus movement and the scholars of the Jesus Seminar. We live in exciting times with a greater interest in spirituality than ever, but this is set against a decline in adherence both in the West and in the Orient to Organized Religion. It is my belief that in the Western world almost 80% of nominal Jews and Christians have rejected their orthodox beliefs and become spiritual seekers. With my ability through travel to see the world rather more globally than most of us do, I have tried to incorporate into this novel a gradual revelation of a different way of understanding the Historical Jesus so that the discovery of our own inner divinity becomes paramount in his message and not the traditional message of salvation. There is a fusing of Eastern and Western philosophy in this message. However, the deeper theological message that lies at the heart of "Two Thousand Years Later" is only gradually revealed as the characters in the twentieth century become involved in tense relationships surrounding their re-incarnational discoveries often mirrored in those first century revelations. The book is a gradually solved mystery, a beautiful although at times tense romance, a colorful travelogue and a theological statement that is indeed challenging to conventional Christianity, but full of hope as we take on our own spiritual power in the increasing link between science and spirituality that is the thinking of the new millennium. It's a good read.

Store description
With 3 stores less than 1 hour outside the DC/Metropolitan area (1 in Gaithersburg, 1 in Frederick and 1 in Hagerstown, MD), we have the largest selection of books in the tri-state area. Wonder Book and Video has been in business since 1980 and online since 1997. We have over 1 Million books for sale on our website and another 1 Million books for sale in our 3 locations. Items on Abe are not necessarily in stock at our retail locations. Please do not call the stores to place orders for Abe Books sales. We have a very active online inventory and as such, we can receive multiple orders for the same item. We fill those orders on a first come first serve basis, but will refund promptly any items that are out of stock. Since 1980 it has always been about the books. ALL kinds of books from 95 cent children's paperbacks to five figure rare and collectibles. A merging of the old and new is where we started, and it is where we are today. Our retail stores have always been places where a reader can rush in looking for a title needed for a term paper that is due the next day, or where bibliophiles can get lost "in the stacks" for as long as they wish. In 2002 USAToday recognized us as "1 of 10 Great Old Bookstores", and we have been featured in numerous other newspaper and TV stories including Washington Post and CSpan. Members ABAA, ILAB.…
