"Robert Cary was the first living poet that I ever knew. We were both boys at the time, in our 'teens; and I was very green, my own efforts at verse writing being greener still. But I was not so green that I did not recognize in Robert Cary a true poet. I still retain my first impression of him, not alone of his personality, the charm of it-a poet's dreams in his blue eyes-but of his earliest verses. Already, at that age, there was a genuine ring of pure poetry in what he wrote. It was not alone that there was the authentic tone of the literary in his lines, that effect of compactness and substantiality which artistic craftsmanship produces and which comes only when the poet cares-cares about how he shall sing as well as about the beaty he sings of. There was something else, that indefinable something which marks the difference between art and artifice, between the true and the artificial. Many mosern poets offer us a delectable compote, but the grapes are too shiny and the apples are polished if not pared. This poet plucks the fruit from the living vine and and branch; he does not trear away all the green leaves, the dew is still on the grape, the apple still has its glow of red and gold, there is bloom on the plum; yet the dish is exquisitely arranged. Ane never have I known Robert Cary to regale his guests with the rubber fubber fruits of the fashionable sideboard!" {Charles Phillips}. This book has 60 pages. The frint internal hinge is slightly cracked. The spine of the dust jacket is misssing small pieces on the head and foot of the spine. Included is a Publisher's Announcement. The book is a SIGNED copy from the author, Robert Cary. Overall, this is a VERY GOOD copy with GOOD dust jacket of this VERY SCARCE title. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.…
