THOMAS HART BENTON (1782-1858). Thomas Hart Benton, nicknamed Old Bullion, was an American politician from the Democratic Party, attorney, solider, and senator for Missouri. He was the first member of the Senate to serve five terms, holding his position from 1821 to 1851. He was a pioneer of manifest destiny, calling for the annexation of the Republic of Texas and the compromise in the partition of Oregon Country with the British.ANS. 1 pg. February 1, 1852. St. Louis, Missouri. An autograph note signed Thomas H. Benton to J. V. E. Walsh regarding a lawsuit. Benton wrote on the back of a letter from J. V. E. Walsh to Benton on January 8, 1852. Benton penned: Of first respectability, and reliability. There is no agreement about a fee, but I guarantee its paymt to you generously & promptly. I had thought $500 would do. Thomas H. Benton Feby 1 1852. The Walsh letter to Benton states: Dear Sir Enclosed herewith we have the pleasure to wait on you with brief prepared by our counsel at New Orleans W. G. Micou Esq. in our considered suit ofIowa with its Declaration. We have just this moment received it and following our promise to you when you were at St Louis we now take the earliest moment to forward it to you. This suit, as you are aware, was primarily commenced during the life time of one the parties to this suit and the partner in thismy brother John Walsh, he died in August 1850 & the surviving parties to this suit are now Edward Walsh I surviving partner of the firm of J & E. Walsh and Dickinson B. Morehouse. We also enclose you W. Macous letter that accompanied his Brief. Yours truly, J. V. E. Walsh. John Walsh and Edward Walsh were partners, however John died in 1850. Despite this, the lawsuit is still continuing. The manuscript is in good condition with folds and short fold separations.

Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to Stuart Lutz Historic Documents, Inc., South Orange, New Jersey, U.S.A., +1 8774289362, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
