This book is inscribed and signed by the author on the half title page as follows: To Frances From Jesse Jackson. This author (not to be confused with the Rev. Jesse Jackson) was born in Columbus Ohio in 1908 and died in North Carolina in 1983. Mr. Jackson was one of the first yong adultt novelists whose works focused on contemporary experiences of African-American children, often those experiencing life as a minority in a wite community. Call Me Charley, published in 1946, dealt with an African-american teenager struggling for acceptance in an all-white school in ghe suburbs, Tessie, published in 1969, eals with a black "scholarship girl" at an exclusive private school in New York. 243 pages with pictures by Harold James. Pictorial cover as minor edgewear, creasing, small tears, ink scribble mark on front as well as pencilled name Frances on top front and Terry F. pencilled at top back cover.
