Mary Risley is the founder and owner of Tante Marie's Cooking School, in San Francisco. She has received the Cooking Teacher of the Year award from Bon Appétit magazine as well as the "Humanitarian of the Year" award from the James Beard Foundation for her work in helping to alleviate hunger. Risley has written for Bon Appétit and has been featured in the San Francisco Chronicle, as well as in Saveur and Sunset magazines. She travels frequently, giving cooking demonstrations throughout the United States and Canada, and lives in San Francisco.
