Typed letter signed on personal Gerald R. Ford letterhead and dated July 28, 1981 and in FINE condition with normal folds. Letter reads as follows: "Dear Peg and Al: I am writing to invite you to the Dedication of the President Ford Museum and related activities in grand Rapids, Michigan, on September 17th and 18th. there will be a dinner the evening of September 17th, followed by a Gala with Bob Hope as the Master of Ceremonies and other outstanding entertainers participating. A recption follows the Gala. the Museum will be dedicated on Friday, September 18th at 11a.m. I hope you can join Betty and me as our guests for the dinner, the Gala, the reception on thusday evening and, of course, the Dedication ceremonies on the 18th. Will you kindly let me know of your plans as early as possible, but not later than August 15, so I can inform the local committee. Fine Condition Gerald Ford was born on July 14, 1913, in Omaha, Nebraska. A star college football player, he served in the Navy during WWII. Elected to the House of Representatives in 1948, Ford represented Michigan's 5th District for nearly 25 years before suddenly finding himself at the crossroads of history. He was elevated to vice president, and then became the 38th U.S. president due to Richard Nixon's involvement in the Watergate scandal and subsequent resignation. Ford was defeated by Jimmy Carter in the 1976 election. He died in California in 2006. Seller Inventory # 001878
